Is this something that could be done, non-destructively, to the
current system... or would we have to upgrade to a newer version?
Enabling flock support is pretty simple: You just need to mount the *client* with '-o
flock' or '-o localflock'
'flock' should/must be used if you need cluster-wide locks (eg: you are running
multinode mpi jobs)
'localflock' is good enough (and somewhat faster) if you only need per-client
locks.
