I think that even to build the rpms, I have to be in a RedHat or Suse distribution. I can't do that from any distribution starting from tarball.

At configure time I have this message:
checking for RedHat kernel release number... 
checking if Linux kernel was built with CONFIG_SUSE_KERNEL... no

Because I am not in a RedHat distribution there is no way to decide what patch list to apply.

Question: What you call ldiskfs in reality is ext4 with the patches in the lustre tarball. Is that right ?

'make rpms' will give you an rpms to install, so you'll need to add rpm
onto your Linux from Scratch.

make install

may be a better choice in your case... And if it is, you probably want
to review and contribute to this issue:
