Before I attempt to mount lustre through scripts, i usually do a lctl
ping to check for connectivity. i've noticed this lag in ping timeout
before. Can anyone tell me if there is a workaround? Or is there a
better way to check the state before I actually attempt a mount?

Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me you're not giving a lot of
information.
Infiniband? Ethernet?
Versions?
We also first ping iirc, connectivity through ip over ib is near to
instantaneous....

I don't believe the network topology matter in this regard. As I
understand the bug there is a mechanism inside lctl that needs the
delay's and timeout's.
Yes regular /bin/ping via ethernet or ipoib comes back quick, but
that's not what i'm asking. I'd like 'lctl ping' to return quick as
well.
