Why tunables settings no permanent?
by Bill Vyzas
Hi all,
I have a question about the tunables section. Why the changes from bad to
good are not permanent?
I don't think it is something very hard to implement, the popular solution
on the web is to create a text file with the appropriate commands and have
it run every time in the login. I suspect that by making some of the
changes permanent you are essentially changing kernel settings so possibly
you run the risk of a broken kernel.

Why C++ is the language of implementation?
by Bill Vyzas
Hi all,
I am curious to know why PowerTOP is using C++ as the language of
implementation but the majority of the program is written with the C
standards. I checked also some other open source programs like the Gnome
Power Manager and its doing the same thing.
I know that C++ can also call C and I also know that there are couple of
classes on the program but why use C++ for a few classes when you can have
structs, which are basically classes, instead.
Thanks,
Bill

Power Est. is missing
by Bill Vyzas
Hello all,
Two days ago my laptop crashed and I had to reinstall ubuntu and powertop
again. Now whenever I am running powertop the power estimate column from
the overview and the device stats interfaces is missing.
I am running Ubuntu 13.10 with the 3.12 kernel. Do I miss any libraries or
there is something else going on?
Thanks

Dynamically changing data
by Bill Vyzas
Hi all,
When the tool is launched are there any components that change dynamically
or the user can alter them? For example the Tunables section can be
refreshed by the user, is there any other interface or value that will
change dynamically as I am running the tool?
Thanks

Powertop on chromeos
by Gopal, Saranya
Hi all,
I am trying to use PowerTop on a baytrail-M board running chromeOS.
I downloaded the source from https://github.com/fenrus75/powertop and compiled in my host machine (Ubuntu 12.04)
Then I copied the binary to the baytrail-M board on which I need to take measurements.
When I run the powertop binary, it seems to work and I could even get the output in csv or html format.
But, my problem is that I could not configure any other parameter while running the tool.
For example, powertop --time 60 does not work. Neither does powertop --iteration 3
It always says it is taking 1 measurement in 20 seconds.
I notice that it reports that it could not load from file /var/cache/powertop/saved-parameters.powertop.
Is that an issue?
Should I install some configuration file somewhere in my target machine?
Has anyone tried running powertop on chromeOS?
Any pointers to fix this issue would be of great help to me.
Thanks,
Saranya
