Hello Wim,
Your understanding is correct, please move variables region to NON VOLATILE and they will
be preserved during firmware update.
Thank you,
Raghava

Hello Raghava,
Thanks for the information.
It is good to know that this is tested and working so I don't have to worry about
another solution.
I have one question left. I will be using a Slim Bootloader combined with a UEFI payload
and I have UEFI variables. Is the correct way to make sure the variables are preserved to
move them from the NON REDUNDANT area to the NON VOLATILE area? Or will I run into issues
if I do this?
Best Regards,

Hi Wim,
Yes Coffee Lake also support Capsule update mechanism out of the box.
Please refer to this page
https://slimbootloader.github.io/how-tos/update-firmware.html
for information on the new capsule generation tool. We updated the tool to support
multiple firmware images in single capsule.
Coffee Lake capsule update mechanism support CSME update as well.
Coffee Lake firmware update can be triggered by writing 0x5A to CMOS offset location 0x40
.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Thank you,
Raghava

Subject: [Sbl-devel] Flash support for CoffeeLake
Hello,
For ApolloLake SBL supports the Capsule update mechanism out of the box. Is this the case
for CoffeeLake as well? I couldn't find a clear reference in the documentation.
If so, will any additional effort be required to make this work on a specific board? I
assume the changes only involve the mechanism to trigger the update process is this
right?
