It is expected that PBAP II will introduce a unique identifier for contacts
that is stable across OBEX sessions. We should use that in the PBAP backend to
detect new/updated/removed contacts.

A "refresh-from-client" can fail due to timeouts when using WebDAV in bridging
mode, because the Synthesis engine is stuck waiting for the storage and cannot
reply to the client in time.
WebDAV should use more efficient methods for deleting all items, instead of
DELETE on every single one.

Starting with EDS 3.8, EDS could use direct-read-access. This has to be a
compile time check, because the EBookClient API in 3.6 did not yet have it.

[Bug 64964] New: PIM Manager + EDS 3.8

This is an issue about various things that would be useful/required to have in
an EDS 3.8 branch when used for PIM Manager.
EDS did not properly close active sources when clients died prematurely. This
was fixed in 3.9, could be backported. mbarnes said on IRC that he might do
that himself. Commit from 3.9:
https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution-data-server/commit/?id=26d1e871576...
There are some patches from the openismus-work branch which did not make it
into 3.8, most notable database updates when the locale changes. See bug
#59571.
Tristan, can you take care of at least the merging of all patches from the
openismus-work branch?

Need to write a test which regularly pings the server while reconfiguration of
the active address books is running. Also enhance performance of that.
The question related to this is whether SetActiveAddressBooks() should return
before the work is done (currently it does) and what the result of queries
should be while the reconfiguration runs (currently it may return data that
belongs to disabled address books - that data will be removed shortly, for some
definition of "short").

The "SOUND" property is not synced via PBAP at the moment. It could be useful
for a new sorting based on pronounciation.
Need more information before anything can be done:
- test cases
- expected ordering of those

Several operations do not make sense for a target config. Trying them should
trigger dedicated error messages:
- syncing (see bug #56263 comment #0 for an example of lacking error reporting)
- status (see #56263 comment #10)

The PIM Manager can use normalized phone numbers in EDS for two things:
- avoid calculating the normalized numbers after reading a contact
- search via normalized string when doing a direct search

A WebDAV server is allowed to modify items during a PUT, in which case it won't
return an eTag. SyncEvolution should treat the missing eTag as "server has
updated data" and import that changed item in a second cycle.
This can be made more efficient with the prefer=return-representation header.

Searching could be extended with and/or operations and more complex match
terms, like "field X contains/starts-with/ends-with Y".
Sorting could be extended to sort ascending and descending and with a list of
fields to use for comparison.
Need full specification for the desired feature.
