I'm not sure I understood this, but please do not change how the D-Bus API acts
for automated syncs: progress signals and such should work as usual.
Doing a Inforequest (especially for passwords) on automatic sync may sound
stupid, but I'm not sure what would be non-stupid in that case... In a way it
is clients responsibility to save a password if it enables autosync.

into existing session handling is because ...".
For session: report progress info, unchanged
For auto sync: don't report progress info, don't ask passwords from dbus
clients
