EDS did not properly close active sources when clients died prematurely. This was fixed in 3.9, could be backported. mbarnes said on IRC that he might do that himself. There are some patches from the openismus-work branch which did not make it into 3.8, most notable database updates when the locale changes. See bug #59571.
