What does it say when running it as "SYNCEVOLUTION_DEBUG=1
syncevolution(21201)/kdeui (kdelibs): Session bus not found
To circumvent this problem try the following command (with Linux and bash)
KCrash: Application 'syncevolution' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/drkonqi directly
No protocol specified
drkonqi: cannot connect to X server :0
Did you compile from source or install the syncevolution.org
In the bundle one can delete /usr/lib/syncevolution/backends/platformkde.so to
avoid the problem.
I use a source based distribution. The package manager downloads the sources
and compiles them for me.
Obviously it fails when trying to initialize itself as a KDE app.
I'd like to
understand why so that I can let it start up despite that failure.
I'm not seeing that failure here. Do you have a running D-Bus and X session?
The problem arises when I run syncevolution as the user that the package
manager uses during compilation (or as any other user that is not the one with
the active session).
That is, I have a running D-Bus and X session but not the user that runs
Probably running the compiled SyncEvolution fails. I need to find a
way of extracting the property descriptions, the current approach also fails
