As far as Meego goes the tray icon approach is a bad choice as we don't have a
tray by default. For the platforms you mentioned this might be fine: I'd
probably do this as a configuration applet but maybe I haven't understood the
use cases fully.
I'm mentioning this only because the bug is currently filed on "OS
middleware"
which means Meego components... There's a syncevolution product as well,
meaning "upstream syncevolution" (yeah, it's a bit complex).
