I had a chance to discuss this with Ralf Becker at CalConnect. It is
related to
eGroupware bugs:

Bug #3020 is about the regression,
bug #2975 about the reason why it was introduced.
Fix is available in the eGroupware code repository. Might not be in a formal
release, though.
