I built SyncEvolution on CentOS 5.4, whose boost library is too old (1.33.1).
Therefore, I installed boost 1.40.0 in my home dir and used --with-boost to
point to it. The build fails in src/syncevo, because boost/foreach.hpp isn't
found. Using BOOST_ROOT doesn't help, either, because the configure script
doesn't get it. Using CPPFLAGS to point to the boost headers fixes the problem.
It seems to me as if BOOST_CPPFLAGS, as set by AX_BOOST_BASE, isn't used
anywhere.

Thanks for pointing this out. Boost is used throughout SyncEvolution, so the
simplest solution probably is to add it at the end of BACKEND_CPPFLAGS in
configure-pre.in.
Can you add it and run "autoreconf" to regenerate the configure script? Does
that change work?

The autotools that CentOS 5.4 brings with it are probably too old (automake
1.9.6, autoconf 2.59, libtool 1.5.22), they don't work with the sources. Which
versions do you use?
I've changed the configure script manually to add BOOST_CPPFLAGS to
BACKEND_CPPFLAGS and that worked.

The ones from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS:
- libtool 1.5.26
- automake 1.10.1
- autoconf 2.61
I'm not sure what the lowest required version of these are. It's likely that
some features get used which are unsupported in some older version, though.
I've changed the configure script manually to add BOOST_CPPFLAGS
to
BACKEND_CPPFLAGS and that worked.
Then I'll push this into our repos.
