Hi
I installed sync-ui, did run it first time, configured it and everything
worked. Then I closed it and reopend it and it crashed immediately with a
Segmentation fault.
Could you help??

Which version of SyncEvolution is that? Who compiled it?
Can you give us a stack backtrace of that crash? Run under gdb, then once it
crashed, use "thread apply all bt". Console output near the crash would also be
useful.

with a bit more detail in case gdb is new to you:
* execute 'gdb sync-ui'
* 'run', wait for crash
* 'thread apply all bt'
* paste all output here

Thank you for the debugging help, it is very much appreciated.
You did everything correctly but I keep forgetting that normal people do not
run debug binaries... If you could do the same thing again after installing our
debug packages, that would be great. On Moblin this will install every debug
package we might need (run as root):
debuginfo-install syncevolution
There will be a lot of packages (about 100MB possibly), if this is a problem
let me know and I'll make an educated guess on what debug file you need.

Right. Slightly different ways of handling debug packages...
You'll need to install the debug package for sync-ui. on Ubuntu this means
"<packagename>-dbg" package, but I can't seem to find
"sync-ui-dbg" on the
ubuntu package database for some reason.
The current backtrace is not much for me to work on, so options are :
* ask your friendly Ubuntu maintainer for a debug package for sync-ui
* compile a non-stripped version yourself:
http://jameswestby.net/tips/tips/compiling-debian-package-for-debug.html
* compile newer syncevolution. This won't fix the bug in Ubuntu though, and is
not totally trivial.

after some google work I've found a site with a description to install another
version of sync-ui. I uninstalled first and installed according to this
description

and it is working again like a dream!

We also have the same information right there on syncevolution.org ;-)

It's even a bit more up-to-date than the Wiki you referred to, because we moved
the download location. Not quite by accident the old location still works,
though.
Never mind, I'm glad to head that it now works for you. I suppose we have fixed
the problem you ran into in the meantime, so I'm closing this issue.

Will take a look next week.
As you said on the mailing list, we could backport whatever fix is necessary to
the old branch. But Ubuntu 9.10 probably won't include that fix anyway, so I
don't think we need to bother.
Whoever has problems running 0.9, should use our 1.0 binaries from
syncevolution.org.
