"Addressbook:Error 418" shows up in sync ui after syncing an alike contact.
<1> add one contact in client(you can just set a contact with its full name
"Jessy", others field empty), add the same contact in server(you need to set
First and Display Name field to "Jessy", other fileds empty).
<2> two-way sync.
<3> two-way sync again.
In step <2>, Sync UI will show "Sync-Failed Addressbook:Error 418", step
<3>
will be successful.
FYI. Error Number 418 means "Object already exist".
Are we expected to show that error message to end user when syncing alike
contact?

Does this only happen on Funambol?
I can't reproduce it with Google contacts( ui and command line )

You didn't say explicitly, but Yanshuang's reply indicates that you were
testing with Funambol. Is that correct?
Are we expected to show that error message to end user when syncing

contact?
Right now, yes, we just pass through such errors. It would be nicer if could
diagnose what the problem was and explain it to the user, but this is often
tricky. I'm turning this into an enhancement request. The more general issue is
bug #2069.

I can add a proper message for DB_AlreadyExists error, but I'm not sure what to
say in it...
Maybe: "An item we sent already exists on server, and normal sync is not
possible at this time."
Can I suggest actions, like I do with slow sync requests?

I think this is not really an error, more like feedback from the server what it
did with the data.
I just tried to reproduce why it fails (step 2 in the description), it didn't
trigger the 418 status. Instead the local item was merged with the server's
item. Ah, that was because my two contacts slightly differed in their fields.
When they are 100% alike, I get 418.
I think we shouldn't treat a 418 status as error. I'll look into the Synthesis
engine regarding this.
