[SyncEvolution] Why is there nothing in the cache for my calendar - E71 1.0beta3?
by Chris G
Further to my playing with my Nokia and 1.0beta3 I had another try at
running syncevo-phone-config.py and this time it created a
configuration for me which I'm now trying.
While I'm about it running syncevo-phone-config.py was rather painful
because I had to accept hundreds of bluetooth connections to my phone
while syncevo-phone-config.py was running.
Anyway, it eventually created a confguration, presumably yesterday I
must have tried it when the E71's bluetooth wasn't working.
The new configuration seems *exactly* the same as all the previous
ones I have tried which were created by sync-ui. Addressbook, memos,
and todos are synchronised, calendar entries only go from E71 to
Evolution.
I have noticed one more symptom, if I run:-
syncevolution --print-sessions E71
The result is (several) reports as follows:-
/home/chris/.cache/syncevolution/e71-2010-05-11-21-49
+---------------|-----------------------|-----------------------|-CON-+
| | LOCAL | REMOTE | FLI |
| Source | NEW | MOD | DEL | ERR | NEW | MOD | DEL | ERR | CTS |

| addressbook | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |

+---------------+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+
| calendar | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |

| start Tue May 11 21:49:36 2010, duration 0:11min |
| synchronization completed successfully |
+---------------+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+
So why is there *nothing* in the calendar? There's certainly data in
both my Evolution calendar and in the E71 calendar.

[SyncEvolution] E71 and 1.0beta3 - trying S60 from sync-ui seems to work
by Chris G
I'm sure I tried this before and it didn't work but just now I removed
all my existing configurations, ran sync-ui and selected the S60
configuration and now synchronisation seems to be working in both
directions.
For some reason my Contacts have gone a bit crazy, I seem to have
every entry duplicated 8 times!
Apart from that all seems OK. :-)

[SyncEvolution] Further results from Nokia E71 with 1.0beta3
by Chris G
I've been doing some more tests to see what works and what doesn't
between my Nokia E71 and Evolution.
Contacts synchronize OK in both directions.
Memos synchronize OK in both directions.
Calendar entries and tasks only get copied from the E71 to Evolution,
they never get copied in the other direction.
When I ran 'syncevolution' from the command line after a number of
these tests I saw:-
Synchronization successful.

Perfect thanks, was too tired to read it exactly enough...
but even with the new one my
SE W890 wont work :(
with syncevolution beta2 i got some communication, getting the
contacts and some calendar entrys to evolution, but unfortunatly not
the way back on phone ...
now i do not get anything woking :(
any of the following always result in No working configuration found
python syncevo-phone-config.py -b 00:23:F1:80:C1:C8
python syncevo-phone-config.py -b 00:23:F1:80:C1:C8 --advanced
python syncevo-phone-config.py -b 00:23:F1:80:C1:C8 -p 1.1
python syncevo-phone-config.py -b 00:23:F1:80:C1:C8 -p 1.1 advanced
****************SUMMARY****************
No working configuration found
are there any ideas how to go further ?
could it be that the beta2 config is used somehow ?
how to clear it if nessesarry?
cheers phil

[SyncEvolution] Nokia E71 - almost working but only one way
by Chris G
I was recently pleased to find syncevolution now does direct phone to
evolution synchronization.
So I have installed syncevolution beta3 on my Ubuntu 9.10 system and
have got it very nearly all working. The bluetooth connection went
fairly smoothly and then I ran sync-ui which saw the E71, all well so
far.
However as far as I can see when I synchronise it only ever copies
data from the E71 phone to Evolution, it never copies anything from
Evolution to the phone.
I'm currently trying syncevo-phone-config.py, I'll report back with any
success/failure.

Would it fit into an additional section of the server HOWTO?

I'm not entirely sure how many people will really need this. It all
depends on actually having multiple local data sources. In your case I
still think that you could skip the plain file storage entirely and use
EDS directly.
Long term we want to simplify this "local sync", but it is uncertain
how.

The key problem is that client and server are apparently defined in the
same context and thus share the "evolutionsource" property of each
source. "context" = the settings which define a set of databases.
If you follow the server HOWTO, then your "@default" context (see
--print-config -q @default) defines the set of databases used by the
server as using the file backend ("type = file:...") and local files
("evolutionsource = file:///var/spool/sync/mk/...").
Now your client configuration was created in the same context and thus
uses the same "evolutionsource" properties, but with the Evolution
backends. As a result, both client and server read and write the same
directories, putting different items there. This explains the empty
VCALENDAR items.
To fix this, remove the client config. Then create it anew with
--configure --template SyncEvolution my-client-config@evolution
and the other sync properties set so that it works with the local
server. That should fix the problem.
