What file is /usr/lib/libsmltk.so.0? Did you compile it yourself?
Please give more information:
* Linux distro, 32 or 64 bit
* Which source you are using.
* Full configure invocation.
* More context for the error message, in particular the libtool
and ld invocation leading up to this error.
