This sounds similar to Dmitry's experience with his Nokia 3500:
sometimes rebooting the phone was necessary to get it to talk again with
the host. Have you tried that?
Yes, I have now, and it does fix the problem. I'm not at all
impressed with the stability of the E71, not recommended, I've had all
sorts of odd glitches with its software.
