is there a way to limit synchronized calendar items by date range

You are using the
desknow.com server, right?
There is a date range filter that some SyncML servers support, activated
by appending ?/dr(-60,90) to the URI of your calendar. The Synthesis
engine supports this, by filtering local events and then only syncing
those. So it might already work with SyncEvolution, but I have never
tested it.
