Sorry, I ran out of ideas. 1.1 is fairly old now, I don't want to invest
further effort into investigating this, in particular when you don't
give a reason why you want to deviate from what is known to work better
with Funambol.
If you absolutely need it, you'll have to dig into the source code or
upgrade to SyncEvolution 1.1.99.5, available in the "unstable" Debian
repo and the download directories. It has a much saner configuration
system for backend and format selection, see "syncFormat" and
"forceSyncFormat".
