I've pushed a commit changing this to "master". It also fixes 22778 a
bit differently than you did. Can you give me some feedback whether
these changes make sense?
I have had a quick look through, and yeah, looks fine. the only
validation we have really is your sync evo tests, so if that helps with
them, then I'm happy with it.
