The existing GUI is, naturally, based on the native N900 UI, Hildon.
(And Hildon is basically a hacked-up GTK.)
Not sure why you'd say "or", though, since being based on GTK and
porting isn't mutually exclusive. Someone'll probably build GTK for
Harmattan. And the GUI could also be ported to Qt.
I’m not very familiar with the worlds of Maemo and MeeGo, so please
excuse my uninformed statements. What I meant: If the SE GUI on N900 is
based on GTK (or Hildon), it might be worth thinking about porting it to
Qt to get a native feeling on the N9(50).
I wonder, though. If I were to port my GUI to Qt, should I put it on
Ovi? And if so, should I charge for it (though still let it be open
source and thus possible to get for free if you want)? I could probably
use the money...
Yes, why not. I’m not familiar with the Ovi terms, but if they allow for
OpenSource apps (in contrast to Apple’s AppStore), I wouldn’t mind
paying a small amount for the service of getting the GUI served
consumption-ready on my phone.
