How did you create your contacts? Or in other words, where were they
stored before you imported them into Evolution again?
Contacts created in Evolution have an explicit "X-EVOLUTION-FILE-AS"
property that determines sorting ("file as" in the GUI). I don't know
what it uses if that property is no present, probably the "full name
(FN)" property.
There is no code in SyncEvolution which creates or modifies either of
these two properties. It could be added, but at the expense of not being
able to synchronize the real content of them.
