Hey list,
I've got my Nokia E71 to follow this tutorial nearly to the letter:

Is the phone properly paired with your desktop? In other words, can you
do other operations with it via Bluetooth?
The "Not found" error is a bit strange. I wonder whether it means "phone
not found" - is Bluetooth enabled while you try to sync? Some phones
also require explicit confirmation for syncing, so make sure that your
phone's UI is unlocked while trying.

I'm not sure what's up with the E71. Typically Nokia phones can be
reached without having to dive into the command line, like the author of

what he did it remains unclear to me why he is changing the OBEX
channel, in particular to the one used by "OBEX File Transfer" - that
looks just plain wrong.
If you use just the "sync-ui" to create a configuration for the E71,
using the generic "Nokia" template, does it work? If so, please fix the
Wiki.
Anyway, let's diagnose this. What is the output of "hcitool scan"? What
does "sdptool search --bdaddr <bdaddr from scan> SYNCML" say?
For the N97 I get:

Me neither. The frustrating thing is a bunch of people have asked him to

Install syncevolution-evolution, deinstall anything it conflicts with.
syncevolution-evolution is the monolithic package from syncevolution.org
which contains everything (SyncML lib, SyncEvolution, sync-ui, Evolution
backends).

Ok, I have syncevolution-evolution package already installed. I'm
assuming you wanted sync-ui package as well, but that pulls libsmltk0
which syncevolution-evolution conflicts with. =(

information available explaining why. You could try with enabling
"calendar+todo" instead or perhaps in addition to "addressbook".
If all fails, you might try the syncevo-phone-config script. Be prepared
to loose your data on the phone if you do!

--advanced --create-config nokia_e71_auto
This will do a lot of trial-and-error attempts to sync. Somehow I doubt
that it'll work, because Nokia phones tend to be very consistent about

was successfully then able to use the configuration. It also dumped this
for my phone, a Nokia E71, in case this is useful for you.

That's the same configuration as in the normal Nokia template. It's good
that the script worked as intended, but I'm still puzzled that you
didn't get the phone to work with the sync UI.
Can you show me the output of "syncevolution --print-config -q
nokia_e71"? When you set up that config in the UI, did you select the
Nokia template?

That won't be any use to you now unfortunately because I deleted the old
config and replaced it with the new working one.
Contacts sync fine, but calendar, memo, and todo don't seem to sync to
the phone. I have them enabled in the GUI.

No. I was reluctant to do so because the other Nokia config that came
preloaded was for a different model and I wasn't sure how safe it would
have been to run that.

There is a bug that statistics for calendar and todo do not show up in
the sync-ui, but I take it that there is a more fundamental problem. I
don't remember: did you say that you are using SyncEvolution 1.1.1? That
version is highly recommended for phone sync.
Log files showing how SyncEvolution tries to send calendar items would
help.

Well, picking a Nokia model is still a better choice than using the
template for something entirely different. Is there anything that can be
done in the UI or the documentation to make that more clear?
Probably ask the user what make and model they have of the phone, and if
it is a Nokia and you don't have that model in the software, have it
defer to the default template.

Yes, it does. "syncevolution --print-sessions nokia_e71" will point you
in the right direction.

Probably ask the user what make and model they have of the phone, and if
it is a Nokia and you don't have that model in the software, have it
defer to the default template.
Currently we rely on the device name as advertised via Bluetooth to do
this kind of matching. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that it has
the vendor and model in it.
My hope was that users would be able to select a matching template
config even if the right one is not preselected.

I'm sorry for disturbing this thread, but since I had some similar troubles with
my E61, I perhaps might help. When sync'ing two.way my E61, I use to operate two
synchronizations: the first only for Contacts (by un-checking Calendar and to-do
in the GUI) and the second for Calendar and to-do (by checking Contacts and
un-checking the others). I suggest you to try the same way.

Sometimes I have wondered whether combining multiple sources into one
session is really worthwhile. SyncEvolution could automatically run one
session per source. The drawback is some increased overhead (session
setup) and less nice logs, but as long as we manage to make it
transparent in the SyncEvolution UI I don't think it would matter much.
A phone might prompt for acknowledgment more than once, but I would
guess that most users allow their PC permanent access anyway?

That would be true at least in my case.
But please consider that, in my case, multiple sessions would also produce the
temptation to try to sync more than a phone at the same time... which would
probably lead to inconsistency. For example, if I modify an entry in phone A but
sync phone B before than - or at the same time of - phone A, then the
modification might not make it to phone B.

The problem was there was only one available and I think it was for some
other model of Nokia.
