I took a look at some Harmattan docs, and it seems that calendar-backend may have been replaced with "mkcal". Perhaps SyncEvolution's existing kcalextended backend would work with mkcal. For contacts, I suspect they now use qtcontacts instead of ebook, so perhaps SyncEvolution's qtcontacts backend would also work.

Initially, I wrote them to have some way of experimenting with these storages, later the mKCal backend became relevant for a while for CalDAV syncing in MeeGo. MeeGo no longer uses mKCal/QtContacts-Tracker, so both backends are effectively unmaintained until someone picks them up again. It won't be hard to get SyncEvolution working on Harmattan, as long as you know how to compile software for it. SyncEvolution isn't special. Once you can run "configure & make", make sure that your have the QtContacts and mKCal development files installed, plus the development files mentioned in the HACKING document. Ignore the parts about GTK UI and Evolution and, initially, anything related to D-Bus. Then configure with "--disable-ebook --disable-ecal --enable-qtcontacts --enable-kcalextended". Make and install. Once you have it compiled, follow the normal "getting started" instructions. Since I also plan to buy an N9 when it’s available, I’m also interested in running SyncEvolution on Harmattan. After getting SE compiled for and running on Harmattan, the next step might be looking for a GUI. Since I currently only use SE on GNOME, I’m not very familiar with the available options. Is it possible to port the N900 GUI to Harmattan, or is it based on GTK? Is there a generic Qt GUI in the works that might be suited for the N9? If one ends up developing a new GUI, I could at least contribute a little bit of experience with the DBus API, although I’m only familiar with Python. So if anyone plans to start working on this, I might see if I can lend a hand. Cheers, Frederik

It looks like I can't compile SyncEvolution on this yet, because there's some build dependencies missing, Boost in particular. If you know of a libboost package for Harmattan, let me know. (There's also no libneon, but that's only needed for CardDAV/CalDAV, and I think you were only interested in SyncML.) And the simulator seems to have no contacts or calendar application, so even if I could build the SyncEvolution package, I would not be able to check how well it would work and interoperate with the native PIM applications. So I'd also need someone with a device to test some stuff for me, in order to know what options and patches to use when building Harmattan packages. (Things to figure out might include: Where are SSL CA certificates stored on Harmattan? Does mkcal support ical UIDs and stuff properly? Is optification still useful on Harmattan? Is IPv6 supported on Harmattan?)
